Thoha's Story part 4

3 months after ACL reconstruction

Hi all, I wanna share my situation after 3 months. I have been feeling much better when I am doing the physiotherapy, guided. I get the motivation and the situation is well known, no panicks and I am totally cool. What I did was after last month, when I discovered that my knee didn't extend fully, I went to IGMH (Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital) and consulted Dr. Shakeel. He said that my knee is fine and I CAN achieve full extension and flexion. I am very happy with it. Also he explained a lot about ACL reconstruction and we had a nice conversation. After that he prescribed me to do the physiotherapy.

The physiotherapist was nice. He was also confident of my knee, though he said that the thigh muscles are a little weaker than it should be after three months. So there may be a delay for me to heal completely. He said it is in my hinds. The more do the exercises, the sonner they strengthens. I try knee extension exercises and it extends fully sometimes. I was told that my knee doesn't extend fully because my Hamstrings are more stronger than the Quadriceps after the surgery. When I think, it is no wonder when I had been admitted for a whole week, after immobilising the whole leg,. Nearly all the Quadriceps strength was lost after the surgery. I do group therapy now and it is enjoyable there with many people in the same situation. I went there having about a flexion of 130 degrees and now I am near to full extension. Initially, I was not able to do the resisted exercises with sand cuffs plus cycling, but after a week I was allowed to do them. I can't wait to go there today too. :)

Status of my knee after 3 months:
  1. The swelling is very less
  2. No full extension (extension comes after doing the exercises only)
  3. Nearly full flexion (only a few degrees left)
  4. Almost no limp while walking
  5. Can do resisted exercises with 1.5 Kg sand cuffs
  6. Can cycle in the 5th range
  7. Sometimes little pain near the medial meniscus (mostly after exercising)
